Cascais

Beach and waterfront in Cascais

A former fishing town that became a royal seaside retreat, Cascais brings together a bay, small beaches and streets made for wandering. Spend a few hours exploring the centre and waterfront, with time to stop for something to eat.

Why visit?

A good choice when you want to keep the sea in sight after your sail. The town centre gives you a taste of the coast without needing a packed sightseeing plan.

MODERN LISBON, BY THE WATER

Oriente · Parque das Nações

Around Oriente station, Parque das Nações shows a different side of Lisbon. Redeveloped for Expo ’98, this riverside neighbourhood combines contemporary architecture, public art and open spaces. The Oceanário is one of its best-known attractions.

Why visit?

Come for a change of scene from the old city: broad waterfront walks and striking buildings, with the Tagus still beside you. It is also a good option if an aquarium visit appeals to you.

Start around Oriente, explore the architecture and head towards the river. Add the Oceanário if you want to spend more time indoors.

Monsanto

Monsanto is Lisbon’s large forest park, spread across hills within the city. Its wooded landscape offers a different sort of afternoon: time outside, walking through greenery and finding a quieter rhythm away from the busy streets.

Why visit?

Choose this when you feel like stretching your legs and spending time in nature. You can stay close to Lisbon while giving the city sightseeing a break.

Choose a walking route through the park and bring a picnic. Start with a specific entrance or trail so you can make the most of your time.
